Hi! I am Lisa MacCormac, the creator of 'Sounds make Words make Stories'.

This is a structured reading program that introduces sound groups in a

systematic and uncluttered way. The difference between this program and

others is that it is completely scaffolded, and as a result it builds confidence

and capability in new readers by only focusing on newly introduced sounds

together with those already learned. This enables new readers to apply their

learning immediately and feel a sense of accomplishment in their reading ability, as well as eliminating the chances of getting unnecessarily stuck on sounds not yet learned. 

 

Also in this reading program, the self-reader books are complemented by several read-aloud story books, which introduce fun and relatable characters, who then appear in the self-reader books. This in turn, encourages learners to want to read the self-readers in order to find out more about the characters. These read-aloud stories are written in rhyme and each has a moral tale which young learners can relate to, such as being inclusive, acceptable and caring of others, working together to solve problems, taking risks and building trust.

    

This program has had success with young readers, stubborn readers, readers with learning difficulties and readers with English as a second or third language. It has been proven to be an excellent educational tool within schools as well as for home learning in four different countries.
